Student Educational Itinerary

Students can have fun and learn about inner workings of the human body at the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, create their own masterpiece at the Museum of Art, and experience dolphin watching aboard "The Duke" as they cruise around the waters off Dauphin Island.

Day 1 - MORNING

Fort Condé Museum and Welcome Center
Begin your tour by visiting Fort Condé, a replica of the original site built by the French in 1711. Costumed soldiers will lead you through the complex and recount the 300 year history under the French, British, Spanish and American flags. Guests can also browse through the Visitor Center which includes a gift shop and big-screen video of Mobile.

Museum of Mobile
Step across the street from Fort Condé and visit the Museum of Mobile, located in the Southern Market/Old City Hall, a National Historic Landmark, built in 1857. View the rich history of Native American, Colonial, African-American and Antebellum influences that come alive in the museum's 21st century exhibits and Discovery Room, a hands-on gallery for children and adults.

Mobile Carnival Museum
This museum highlights the history of Mardi Gras in the true birthplace-Mobile, Alabama. There are two faces of Mardi Gras-one regal, one raucous. Experience the royalty in the restored mansion-majestic crowns, scepters and bejeweled robes. Get rowdy in the Den with a behind the mask view of the street party. Enjoy a short film telling the story of the original Mardi Gras.

Day 1 - AFTERNOON

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park
See courage up close as you explore 175 acres of history and seven decades of heroism, from WWII to Iraqi Freedom, at one of America's finest military parks. At Battleship Memorial Park you will walk the decks of a mighty Battleship. Go below in a WWII submarine. View cockpits of over 24 vintage aircraft. You will also see tanks, a Vietnam River Patrol Boat and much more. Its all here. All waiting to be discovered by you.

Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center
Two exhibit galleries, Hands on Hall and Minds on Hall, offer loads of interactive fun for adventurers of all ages. Tour the new My Body Works Exhibition that is packed with leading-edge displays detailing the inner workings of the human body. Experience seat gripping thrills in the intimate Virtual Journeys Digital Theater and breathtaking sights in the Gulf Coast's only IMAX® Dome Theater.

Day 2 - MORNING

Mobile Zoo
The Mobile Zoo was established in 1994 to provide homes for endangered and non-endangered wildlife from all over the world and for the education and enjoyment of the public. The Zoo is dedicated to providing a good home for wildlife and is especially concerned with providing information to the public about their survival and co-existence amongst us.

Mobile Medical Museum
The Mobile Medical Museum contains the largest collection of medical artifacts in the Southeast. Over two hundred years of medical history are reflected in this assortment of instruments, equipment, documents and photographs. Visitors will be intrigued by this display of the obsolete and the proven, the primitive and the innovative, the bizarre and the commonplace-all of which contributed to today's practice of medicine.

Geri Moulton Children's Park
Located in a wooded setting along the entrance drive to USA Children's & Women's Hospital. The park provides a tranquil place filled with more then 50 life-size bronze sculptures depicting children and families, providing a wonderful place of enjoyment and contemplation. The park has been featured in Southern Living magazine, and received the Tree Preservation Award from the Mobile Tree Commission.

Mobile Museum of Art
This Museum is the largest art museum along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to Tampa. It hosts special exhibitions from world-famous museums and collectors throughout the year. In addition, the museums permanent collection includes American, European, Asian and African art spanning over 2,000 years of cultural history. Enjoy traditional as well as contemporary paintings, sculpture and fine crafts, including an exquisite collection of glass art. Student educational programs are offered.

Day 2 - AFTERNOON

Dauphin Island
Dauphin Island is just off the Alabama coast, making it the southernmost point in the State. A barrier island, it has protected the coast from many storms and hurricanes...and Union soldiers. Fort Gaines, established in 1821, played a major role in the Battle of Mobile Bay, the largest naval battle of the Civil War. In addition to the Fort, there are Indian shell mounds, rich in legend, and the Dauphin Island Estuarium where you can see live marine life in their natural habitat.

Dauphin Island Estuarium
The Estuarium is the public aquarium of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Alabama's marine education and research center. Visitors explore the four key ecosystems of coastal Alabama: the Delta, Mobile Bay, the barrier islands and the Gulf of Mexico. Features include the 10,000 square foot exhibit Hall, the living marsh boardwalk; the Miss May shrimp trawler; the weather station and the gift shop. Student educational programs are offered.

Action Outdoors Aboard The "Duke"
Located at Dauphin Island Marina, the Duke, a 49 passenger vessel, offers dolphin watching and shrimp trawling cruises to Sand Island Lighthouse. For the past five years, visitors have enjoyed observing and learning about historic Dauphin Island from the deck of the Duke. The captain's informative narrative includes the history of Dauphin Island, Fort Gaines and Sand Island Lighthouse as well as facts about porpoises, brown pelicans, migratory birds and more!
